We are working with doctors and other stakeholders to build a fully integrated, multidisciplinary health centre with on-site pharmacy and lab services.

The health centre proposes to accommodate up to 10 family physicians, working alongside internal medicine and surgical specialists. There will be ample capacity for medical learners, visiting specialists and allied professionals such as registered nurses, respiratory therapists and cardiology technologists.

The goal of the Alberni Valley Medical Centre is that patients will be able to visit their family physician, nurse practitioner or specialist, have bloodwork and collect prescriptions in one trip and under one roof. For our vulnerable populations, those with impaired mobility, or those without access to private vehicles this will alleviate often significant logistical and financial burdens and improve access to services. If a family physician or allied provider needs advice, specialist colleagues are only a few metres away to provide further guidance. Same day, same location, quality care.

The prevalence of chronic disease in Alberni-Clayoquot communities is higher than the BC average and life expectancy is years lower.  With the Alberni Valley Medical Centre we can ensure that new physicians will thrive in a supportive and collegial environment whilst delivering the quality care that our communities so desperately need.
